Content
A one-day course for media freelances who want a quick and easy way to create a website with minimal technical know-how. The course provides learners with all that's necessary - content apart - to produce a simple but expandable website using the award-winning Mr. Site package. Mr. Site provides your own domain name, a year's hosting and step-by-step instructions in how to use its simple interface for £20. On this course, you get that free, plus help and guidance from an experienced tutor.

Who should attend
Media freelances and those preparing to become media freelances who need to promote themselves and advertise their services online but have little or no technical knowledge. This course will also suit people with websites who want to develop secondary specialised sites, such as photo galleries or online shops.

Qualifications
Those taking part should be numerate and literate and have basic experience of using common software applications such as MS Office and browsers like Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari. The course is suitable for PC and Mac users, but learners should bring text and illustrations in electronic form as website content. To see if Mr. Site suits you, visit http://www.mrsite.com/

Expected learning outcomes
This course will give learners experience of planning and developing a website from scratch using pre-defined templates. Terms and jargon will be explained and learners will create a basic website during the day. Learners will acquire an understanding of the importance of logical structures, easy navigation, good design and clear writing.

About the FEU

The Federation of Entertainment Union acts as a forum for exchanging ideas and information between the TUC affiliated unions in media and entertainment and co-ordinates campaigns on issues of common concern.

The FEU has three specialist committees:

  • Training
  • Equalities
  • The Olympics

It aims to help specialist officials to work closely together while preventing duplication. It is also helpful for those bodies with which we deal individually, in that it provides a joint forum for the likes of Offcom and the BBC to meet and consult with all the relevant unions at single meeting.
