ContentA one-day course for media workers wanting to use the internet as a source of information and resources. The course aims to teach structured and efficient ways of searching for - and evaluating - facts and reference sources, and finding and contacting individuals and organisations.
Who should attend
Media freelances and those preparing to become media freelances who need to access information and resources for research and career development purposes and who are frustrated by the difficulties in accessing the bewildering variety of information on the Internet.
Qualifications
No formal qualification are required but you should have basic computer literacy and experience of using a browser like Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari. The course is suitable for PC and Mac users.
Expected learning outcomes
The ability to structure a search and define search strategies
A knowledge of search tools - particularly Google - and their efficient and advanced use
An appreciation of the various routes to information, libraries, forums and groups, commercial databases, wire services and archives
A basic understanding of the legal dimension in using the internet for research
