ContentA one-day course intended to demystify the nature, function and purpose of social networks built around software such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr, MySpace, Ning or Blogster. Through practical engagement, learners will develop an appreciation of how social networks operate, how to use them to develop an online presence and how they can be deployed for effective marketing and PR.
Who should attend
Media freelances and those preparing to become media freelances who want a simple way to acquire an online presence in order to promote and market themselves and their work.
Qualifications
This is not a technical course, but one which requires some experience of using the Internet. An understanding of traditional marketing and promotional strategies will help.
Expected learning outcomes
Learners will understand the distinctions between different types of social network, and different social network products - how they are used by different audiences and how best to use them. Learners will build their own online presence using one or more social networks and discover how to evaluate the importance and effectiveness of different social media.
